The Pearls Of Human Virtue Woven In A Thread Called Religion
Article by MarcyWatson
The existence of God has been a subject of debate since time immemorial. There are people who believe that god exists while there are some who refuse the existence of god point blank. Most of the people associate the word religion with god but religion is a very broad term. It encompasses a cultural system which has its own meaning, traditions, symbols and appeal to humanity. A religion or a sect is headed by a clerical hierarchy which also includes the getting together of followers of any religion at one place. The followers of any religion abide by the what is written down in the scriptures of their respective religion, they read holy books and sermons which are given in those books. There are some religion who believe worshiping god only through faith and devotion while there are religions which believe in the relevance of complex rites and rituals. The world is a diverse and colorful place to live in and so is the palette of religions followed by the inhabitants of planet earth. No matter whatever the differences are in the belief system of two religions, the core remains the same as all religions of the world preach humanity, kindness, compassion and that god can never be worshiped by means of violence but truth and devotion.
Christianity is the leading religion of the world with approximately 2.2 billion adherents, primarily split into three branches Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox. The holy book of this religion is the holy Bible those who follow this religion go to Church. The highest position among the leaders of this religion is occupied by Pope who is the Bishop of Rome . The Pope of Rome enjoys the authority of being the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church which also includes the Eastern Catholic Church. Since Christianity is followed by more than 30 % of the world population, a number of newspapers such as The Christian Post and The Southern Baptist Convention are published for the christian community who are interested in reading christian news . Christianity with its element has also been an inspiration of many artistes and much of the renowned works of art from the Renaissance period,be it painting or sculpture or architecture have been based on the theme of Christianity. A number of documentaries and films have also been made with Christianity as their theme.
Other major religions of the world are Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. Along with that there are number of religious practices and belief followed by the tribal population leaving in many parts of the world. In addition to that there are a number of Iranian religions which predate Islam but at present are followed by just a minority in Iran. While some religions practice monotheism, religions such as Hinduism have a number of gods and goddesses. Zoroastrianism is another religion which was formed approximately around 5th century BCE in Persia now known as Iran. Many people use religion for their vested interest and hurt others in the name of God. As a result of this, a majority of youth feels disillusioned with God and other religious practices. In such a case, it is easy to say ?To Each His Own? but that will not provide the solution. If someone is creating nuisance in the name of religion , people who follow this religion in its true spirit should come out and tell the world about what does the religion actually mean and how some people are misusing it.
