Secrets by S.L. Pierce is a fast paced action thriller with a strong female protagonist.? It is a fast read, but the writing flows together well.? It has a little bit of everything in it action, romance, and mystery.? The best part of the book though is the tough female lead character.? Most of the book is written in first person narrative from the perspective of the female lead, Gwen.? Gwen is an ex super agent with all of the powers of espionage and heightened self defense.? Reading this book was like watching an action movie.
Gwen is a perfect mix of a strong personality of only seeing things in black and white, good guys or bad guys, and a bit of sass rolled into it.? Her behavior though definitely well suited to an action novel has a twinge of comedy.? You add in her calm loving husband, Jack, and it is a perfect mixture.
?I like duct tape better than rope.? First, everyone has duct tape, whether they?ve ever needed it or not.? I?m pretty sure it?s a law.? Therefore, no need to carry rope.? Looks suspicious anyway.? Second, duct tape is much harder to get out of, especially when taping a much bigger area than is really needed, say halfway up the leg or arm.? Even Houdini would need a knife to get out of that.?
The book is well suited to an afternoon mystery thriller read.? It is well written and keeps your interest going until the end.? The twists added are not too easily predictable and the story line is a good one.? What makes this story an easy sell are the characters, primarily Gwen and Jack, but you also get to know the side characters and what motivates them.
The action sequences are well written and I love how calm and cool Gwen is throughout the novel.? Even in the hardest parts, she remains calm, cool, and collected.? Her behavior makes you feel that maybe she really has undergone major training and is a stone cold killer.? Then you see her behavior towards her husband and you get another side of the personality.? It is an interesting mix and it works.
Overall, this is a fast paced action novel, with a really likable main character.? I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quick action/thriller/mystery read.
I received this book from the author.
