COMMENTARY | President Barack Obama and the Democrats are embracing the Occupy Wall Street movement but do they know who they are aligning themselves with? The media are having a field day with the carnival of disorganized protestors who are out en masse for exposure and entertainment value.
"If you're concerned about Wall Street and our financial system, the president is standing on the side of consumers and the middle class," Obama's senior adviser David Plouffe said in a statement last week in support of the protestors as reported by Politico.
The move by Obama and his staff, taking the side of protesters, leaves him open to criticism and exposure. If the protests turn violent or go sideways in the near future, Obama has already tied himself to the unorganized movement.
Obama also does not realize the history of the movement. Adbusters, a Canadian-based company that started the Occupy Wall Street movement, has been known for anti-Semitic comments in the past including his diatribe on Ariel Sharon which is now receiving added attention.
The commentary by the site's creator, Kalle Lasn, caused many to question his intentions. "Why won't anyone say they are Jewish?" is a commentary calling the United States relationship with Israel into question.
Lasn is not being reported in the mainstream media as an anti-Israel member of the media but Israeli media and right leaning websites have been making sure the word is out on the leader of the Occupy Wall Street debacle.
The Republicans will have ample opportunity to tie Lasn to Obama in the 2012 campaign as well as the union memberships who have aligned themselves with the protests. This is no longer a groundswell of everyday people on the streets of America.
They are union organized and led by the teachings of Lasn. The message is still unclear when interviewers find the average protestor but now with union involvement, it is clear their involvement in protests is to further the Obama union agenda. The Obama army has their fingerprints all over this protest and it will backfire in 2012.
