Tech Business Report: Vringo?s Markman Decision UPHELD, Dell & CISCO DON?T Love India

The favorable Markman ruling obtained by Vringo, Inc. (AMEX:VRNG) in June has been upheld for the most part by a United States district judge, according to Dow Jones. The decision is linked to a lawsuit filed by Vringo against Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), AOL Inc. (NYSE:AOL), and other Internet companies; the judge kept his definition of one of the technical terms that was discussed in the ruling, and ?slightly tweaked? his definition of another one.

Don?t Miss:? Google Finds This Friend For Wallet.

The current business climate in India is the source of complaints from tech firms trying to operate there. Dell?s (NASDAQ:DELL) Asia Pac executive remarks that ?Doing business in India is difficult because the problem is there are too many decision makers?, and John Chambers of Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) used Wednesday?s earnings call to complain that ?We continue to see India challenged largely self-inflicted by their own internal issues.? In general, multinationals note unclear investment rules, retroactive taxes, infrastructure problems, and much more, with mounting displeasure.

London 2012 Olympics: Team GB success sparks burst of pride in Union flag

Hoy, who competes in the Commonwealth games for Scotland, wrapped himself in the Union flag after his successes in the Velodrome, as did Andy Murray, another Scot, after his singles victory on Wimbledon?s Centre Court against Roger Federer in the gold-medal match. Jones carried both the Welsh Red Dragon and the Union flag on her lap of honour in the ExCel Arena.

The survey may give nationalist politicians pause for thought. Since April, there has been a striking rise both in Scotland (up eight per cent) and Wales (up 15 per cent) in feelings of ?pride and patriotism" in the Union flag.

Some 83 per cent of people questioned in Wales say they associated these qualities with the flag - even more than the 80 per cent who say they did so in England, unchanged since before the Olympics. The corresponding figure in Scotland is now 64 per cent.

Last week Gordon Brown said the Games used the example of the Olympics to reinforce a pro-Union message in a speech in Edinburgh.

Alex Salmond, Scotland?s First Minister and Scottish National Party (SNP) leader, has said he wants to hold a referendum north of the border on independence in 2014.

Mr Brown said: ?When we pull and share resources for the common good, it?s often the case that the benefit is far greater than would have occurred if we had just summed up and added up the parts.

?The Olympics is pretty clear to us that by the pooling of resources in, say, cycling, we managed to do what, if you just divided the money and put a tenth to Scotland and a tenth to Yorkshire and so on, you could not have achieved.?

By contrast Pete Wishart, the SNP MP and culture spokesman, has said: "People are thoroughly tired and annoyed with unionist politicians trying to politicise this event [the Olympics]. It?s starting to really appall the Scottish people and we?ll start to see a reaction to it.

Sunder Katwala, director of British Future, said: ?Team GB has become perhaps our most inclusive symbol of the country we?re proud of today.

?That isn?t just because of the record-breaking medal haul. It is also because Britain recognised itself in how Team GB that brought us all together, helping to make the Union flag feel more inclusive to some who might have felt unsure about it before.

?Throughout these London Games, we saw how British pride contains strong national and regional identities, as Scotland, Wales and Yorkshire celebrated the achievements of local Olympians, with our shared pride in the Union flag whether it was flying to celebrate the Gold medals of Jessica Ennis or Mo Farah, Andrew Murray or Ben Ainslie.

?Crowds of families wearing Union Jack face-paint and the creative use of the flag in the closing ceremony staging should now end the idea that a handful of fringe extreme voices should somehow stop the rest of us being proud of a great, iconic flag".

Hmm, I was in an Avengers RP where we were just random people that took after each of the avengers. I, being a HUGE Iron Man fan, was a good clone of him.

I can be that, right? Or would there be something wrong with it?

The only thing I can see wrong is that you need to get you behind over to the dark avengers and post something ;) ::sticks out tongue::

Not a big fan of the "children of" type of rpg, but this one seems cool.

Can I have the Baron?

Dont know anything about him, but I will study up on it pronto

Fingering the culprit that polluted the Solar System

ScienceDaily (Aug. 2, 2012) ? For decades it has been thought that a shock wave from a supernova explosion triggered the formation of our Solar System. According to this theory, the shock wave also injected material from the exploding star into a cloud of dust and gas, and the newly polluted cloud collapsed to form the Sun and its surrounding planets. New work from Carnegie's Alan Boss and Sandra Keiser provides the first fully three-dimensional (3-D) models for how this process could have happened.

Their work will be published by The Astrophysical Journal Letters.

Traces of the supernova's pollution can be found in meteorites in the form of short-lived radioactive isotopes, or SLRIs. SLRIs -- versions of elements with the same number of protons, but a different number of neutrons -- found in primitive meteorites decay on time scales of millions of years and turn into different, so-called daughter, elements. A million years may sound like a long time, but it is actually considered short when compared to other radioactive isotopes studied by geochemists and cosmochemists, which have half-lives measured in billions of years.

When scientists find the daughter elements distributed in telltale patterns in primitive meteorites, this means that the parent SLRIs had to be created just before the meteorites themselves were formed. This presents a timing problem, as the SLRIs must be formed in a supernova, injected into the presolar cloud, and trapped inside the meteoritic precursors, all in less than a million years.

The telltale patterns prove that the relevant daughter elements were not the ones that were injected. This is because the abundances of these daughters in different mineral phases in the meteorite are correlated with the abundances of a stable isotope of the parent element. Different elements have different chemical behaviors during the formation of these first solids, and the fact that the daughter elements correlate with the parent elements means that those daughters had to be derived from the decay of unstable parent elements after those solids were crystallized.

One of these SLRIs, iron-60, is only created in significant amounts by nuclear reactions in massive stars. The iron-60 must have come from a supernova, or from a giant star called an AGB star. Boss and Keiser's previous modeling showed that it was likely that a supernova triggered our Solar System's formation, as AGB star shocks are too thick to inject the iron-60 into the cloud. Supernova shocks are hundreds of times thinner, leading to more efficient injection.

Now Boss and Keiser have extended those models to 3-D, so they can see the shock wave striking the gas cloud, compressing it and forming a parabolic shock front that envelopes the cloud, creating finger-like indentations in the cloud's surface. The fingers inject the SLRI pollution from the supernova. Less than 0.1 million years later, the cloud collapses and forms the core of the protostar that became the Sun and its surrounding planets. The 3-D models show that only one or two fingers are likely to have caused the SLRI pollution found in primitive meteorites.

"The evidence leads us to believe that a supernova was indeed the culprit," said Boss. However, more detective work needs to be done: Boss and Keiser still need to find the combination of cloud and shock wave parameters that will line up perfectly with observations of exploding supernovae.
